Detailed Solution

Lysosomes are known as suicidal bags because they contain digestive enzymes that can break down the cell's own components, which plays a role in cell death. When a cell undergoes programmed cell death (apoptosis), lysosomes release their enzymes to help break down and digest the cell’s components.

Lysosomes are membrane-bound organelles found in animal cells. They contain powerful enzymes that break down waste materials and cellular debris. Under normal conditions, these enzymes are safely contained within the lysosome.

However, if the cell is damaged or undergoing apoptosis, the lysosome membrane may rupture, releasing the enzymes into the cytoplasm. These enzymes then digest the cell’s contents, leading to the breakdown of the cell from within. This function is essential for maintaining tissue homeostasis and removing damaged or obsolete cells.
