Why are sedimentary rocks the only rock type to contain fossils?

Sedimentary rocks contain fossils because they form from the deposition of sediments that trap and preserve remains of plants and animals, unlike igneous and metamorphic rocks which destroy them due to heat and pressure. Fossils are the preserved remains of living organisms. Sedimentary rocks are formed in layers at the Earth’s surface, often underwater, where dead organisms get buried by mud, sand, or silt.
