• Vast Resources: India was a massive supplier of raw materials that were crucial for Britain's Industrial Revolution. These included cotton, indigo, jute, tea, and opium. These resources were taken from India at a low cost to fuel British factories.
• Huge Population: With its large population (around 300 million people at the time), India served as a huge captive market. This meant that the same goods produced in British factories using Indian raw materials were then sold back to the Indian people at high prices, generating enormous profits for Britain. Additionally, India's population provided a vast pool of soldiers for the British Indian Army, which was used to maintain control and expand the empire elsewhere.

This combination of being both a source of cheap raw materials and a guaranteed market for expensive manufactured goods made India the economic cornerstone of the British Empire.
