Detailed Solution

Indian indigo had great demand in the European market because it had a rich blue colour of the best quality preferred by the cloth industry as a dye. Indian indigo was a natural dye, blue. It was used in the cloth and painting industry. Since the availability of Indian indigo was very less in the European market, they tried to find another alternative. Woad was such a plant that provided blue and violet colour dye. Woad plants were easily available in Europe. The woad cultivators were stressed about the Indian indigo in the European market. Despite the high price, the cloth industry preferred Indian indigo because of its rich blue colour and quality. In contrast, the dye from woad was pale and dull.
