Transforming them into agricultural farms would enable the government to collect land revenue, the primary source of their income, and cultivates crops like wheat, jute, and cotton, which were in great demand in their homeland, England. So they enacted rules to take over uncultivated lands, primarily grazing tracts and give them to individuals to expand cultivation.
