Detailed Solution

Poor peasantry joined the Civil Disobedience Movement because they found it difficult to pay the rent. Many of them were poor farmers who had rented land from their landowners. The small tenants struggled to pay their rent as the Depression worsened and their cash revenues decreased. They demanded that the landlord receive their outstanding rent. They joined several radical movements that were frequently led by Socialists and Communists. The Congress was generally unwilling to support "no rent" initiatives because they were worried about bringing up concerns that may enrage the wealthy peasants and landlords. As a result, it was unclear how Congress and the poor peasants would interact.
