Why do farmers prefer threshing over handpicking to separate grains from the stalks?

In a field, each stalk has many grains attached to it and hundreds of seeds need to be separated which is not possible to be done by handpicking. Thus, farmers prefer a much more convenient and less time-consuming method to separate grains from stalks and that method is threshing.
