Detailed Solution

The ionic compounds conduct electricity but covalent compounds do not conduct electricity due to presence of electrically charged ions in ionic compounds and the presence of electrically neutral ions covalent.
When an ionic compound is dissolved in water it dissociates into its constituent ions. The ions are held by strong forces of attraction in ionic compounds. Dispersed ions in the water solution helps in conducting of the electricity.  A covalent bond is formed by sharing of electrons and also weak forces of attraction are present. In the water solution conducting ions are not present hence covalent compounds don’t conduct electricity.
