Detailed Solution

When we throw a ball upwards, it initially moves against the force of gravity due to the force we apply. However, as soon as the ball leaves our hand, the only major force acting on it (ignoring air resistance) is gravity, which pulls the ball downward towards the center of the Earth. As the ball rises, gravity slows it down until it reaches its highest point where its upward velocity becomes zero. After this point, gravity causes the ball to accelerate back downwards.

This is explained by Newton’s law of gravitation, which states that every object with mass attracts every other object with mass. The Earth, being very massive, exerts a strong pull on the ball, pulling it back to the ground. This is why no matter how hard you throw the ball upwards, it will always come back down unless it reaches escape velocity, which is not possible by a simple throw.
