Due to the Earth’s curvature, the amount of solar energy varies according to the latitude.
The Earth has a shape that is flattened at the poles and bulged at the Equator, known as the geoid. Also, the Earth rotates on a titled imaginary axis such that all the areas are not equally exposed to sunlight. The equatorial regions receive direct sun rays. So these areas have a hot climate. The region between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn receives slanted rays of the sun. The temperature here is lower compared to the equatorial regions. At the poles, the sunlight received is minimum. This is why the poles have a cold climate. This shows that moving from the Equator to either pole, the higher latitudes receive less sunlight due to the curvature.
