Why does the stomach's medium need to be acidic?

The stomach is a muscular sac-like organ situated in the upper abdomen, between the oesophagus and the small intestine.

The acidic environment in the stomach is essential for initiating and facilitating the digestive process, as it helps to release digestive juices, activate digestive enzymes, dissolve and break down certain types of food, and ease the movement of the bolus. 

It also helps to ensure that nutrients in the food are effectively broken down and absorbed by the body.
