Detailed Solution

Because only the leader of the majority party in the Lok Sabha can become Prime Minister in a parliamentary democracy, the Prime Minister of India is not directly elected by the people.
The President appoints the Prime Minister, but he is not free to choose anyone for the Prime minister. He must nominate the person with the absolute majority in the Lok Sabha election as Prime Minister. However, this is done to ensure that the Prime Minister has the backing of the majority, which prevents him from becoming a dictator because he must work with the Council of Ministers to enact his ideas or approve legislation in Parliament.
