Why is the series arrangement not used for domestic circuits?

Series arrangement is not used for domestic circuits because if one appliance in series fails or is switched off, the entire circuit is broken and all appliances stop working; also voltage division makes individual appliances get inappropriate voltage.

• In a series circuit all devices share the same current one after another. If one device is turned off or disconnected the circuit is broken and no device receives power. In a household that is impractical.
• Voltage in a series circuit gets divided among devices depending on their resistance. Household appliances require full supply voltage (e.g., 230 V) to operate properly. Series connection would reduce available voltage for each and lead to poor performance.
• In contrast, parallel connection allows each appliance to be supplied with full voltage independently. One device can fail or turn off without affecting the others. This is why domestic wiring uses parallel, not series, arrangements.
