Why is there a difference in the rate of breathing between aquatic organisms and terrestrial organisms? Explain.

There a difference in the rate of breathing between aquatic organisms and terrestrial organisms because aquatic organisms inhale the dissolve oxygen in water while terrestrial organisms inhale the oxygen directly present in the air.

Since aquatic organisms take oxygen from water, water has very small amount of oxygen dissolved in it as compared to the amount of oxygen present in the air. As a result, aquatic organisms breathe faster than terrestrial organisms in order to obtain more oxygen.
