  • The internal resistance of a voltmeter must be very high so that minimum current passes through the meter.
  • A voltmeter is connected in parallel with the load. If the voltmeter's internal resistance is too low, more current will be divided through the voltmeter and more voltage drop across the voltmeter. 
  • If we connect the voltmeter in series with the load, the effective resistance of the circuit will become very high and hence very less current will flow in the circuit and it will be almost zero.
