Detailed Solution

There was no rain in Jodhpur or the nearby areas in 1986. People recalled the long-forgotten stepwell. Step wells are ponds or wells where the water level is reached by descending a series of straps. The stepwell supplied water to the thirsty town. People may reach the water by going down the steps rather than drawing water from the well. That is why they are referred to as stepwells. In the past, people aimed to build stepwells only for thirsty travellers. They didn't build stepwells to harvest water and make the animals move away.
