Light bends at the interface between two mediums when it travels between them. This is called Refraction of Light. We cannot see the actual pool bottom when gazing into a body of water. We get a virtual glimpse of the pool's bottom. This occurs as a result of the way that light rays from the pool's bottom bend as they exit the water and enter the atmosphere.
