Detailed Solution

Louis XVI called the Estates General for new taxes.
The Estates-General was a governmental body to which members from the three estates were sent. However, only the monarch has the authority to summon a session of this assembly. On May 5, 1789, Louis XVI convened an assembly of the Estates-General to consider revised tax ideas. The delegates were to be hosted in a magnificent venue in Versailles. The state-imposed taxes and forced citizens to pay them to support the costs of running the courts, army, government universities, and offices. The King and Queen imposed a range of direct and indirect taxes on the people to defray their costs.
