But soon, they realized the need to fight against this discriminated apartheid system. They formed unions and launched strikes and marches. They joined hands with the communist party. Nelson Mandela had convicted of life imprisonment on the charge of treason. Nelson Mandela was charged with treason and conspiracy backed by international communism to overthrow the South African State violently. He spent 28 years in imprisonment and was set free in 1994.
