Detailed Solution
Raziyya was removed from the throne because Raziyya was a woman. In the thirteenth century, historian Minhaj-i-Siraj of Persia flourished. He wrote the history of the Islamic world, Tabaqat-i-Nasiri. According to Minhaj-i-Siraj, the queen's power was against the divinely enshrined ideal of male control over females. This was said to be true of Raziyya Sultana, who took the throne in place of her father, Iltutmish. Raziyya was Iltutmish's first child. Iltutmish's son Nassirudin Mahmud was to succeed him as his heir. However, once his son died and his other sons became preoccupied with their interests, they could not carry on the dynasty's leadership after their father left. Razia showed her leadership skills when Iltutmish assigned her to oversee the empire while he was fighting in the Gwalior war. She was chosen to succeed her father since her father was so impressed by her performance. He asserted that Raziyya was more capable than her boys. Iltutmish did choose his son Ruknuddin Firuz as his successor, but due to opposition from the nobles who opposed a female queen, Iltutmish had to make this decision. He wasn't a good leader, though. But when a mob threatened to kill her mother, many people stood up for Raziyya. She was seated on the throne and became South Asia's first female Muslim ruler. Raziyya was a more capable ruler than her brother, who wasn't happy to have her as the queen when she was in charge.
