Detailed Solution

Silk making was a complicated process because it had to be extracted from the cocoons of the silkworms and then spun into a thread and then woven into a cloth. Many societies considered silk as a high-quality fabric because of its smooth texture, and rich and glossy colours. Silk also became popular for the rich people in Rome about 2000 years ago. Silk was also expensive because when the Chinese traders carried the silk to different countries they had to cross many dangerous paths and come across many difficulties which made silk an expensive fabric. When the rulers of China sent silk as a gift to the rulers of Iran and West Asian territories the knowledge of silk spread further.
