Detailed Solution

The model of a secular state was chosen for India because the constitution-makers did not want India to be divided on the basis of religion.
A state without a religious foundation is called a secular state. Members of all religious communities are granted religious freedom. The constitution-makers did not wish to prioritise any religion over another since they believed doing so would result in another partition. In a non-secular state, some religious communities would be alienated and oppressed which would eventually result in conflict or violence.
