Detailed Solution

Simon Commission was sent to India To assess the constitutional reforms. After the introduction of the Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms in 1919, the British Government declared that a commission would be formulated and sent to India after ten years to examine the constitutional reforms' effects and operations and suggest further reforms for India. Thus, in 1928, the Tory government at the centre appointed the Simon Commission two years ahead of schedule to report on India's professed progress in introducing constitutional reforms as promised. Sir John Simon headed it, and it was primarily sent as a response to the growing nationalistic movement in India and set the tone for the future of political status in India.
