There was a protest against Indian textiles in England by wool and silk producers because Indian textiles dominated global trade in the 18th century and the Rising popularity of Indian goods. Indian cotton fabrics with printed designs became popular in Europe and England in the 1860s. These materials were favoured for their comparatively low cost, beautiful texture, and gorgeous floral patterns. Rich individuals wore Indian fabrics in England. In the past, even the Queen of England donned clothing made in India. Until the end of the eighteenth century, Indian textiles dominated international trade. Due to their anxiety over the rising popularity of those items, English silk and wool producers began to object to the import of Indian cotton textiles in the early eighteenth century. The British government forbade chintz in 1720 using legislation (printed cotton textiles). This law was known as the Calico Act.
