Detailed Solution

In the pre-modern period, the silk routes played an important role as They served as important trade and cultural links to distant parts of the world, Precious trade items travelled through this route, and Religious preachers used them to spread their faith. Textiles and spices from India and South East Asia travelled along these routes to West Asia, Europe and Africa. In exchange, precious metals like gold and silver flowed from Europe to Asia. Buddhism emerged from eastern India and spread in different directions through these routes.
