Detailed Solution

Workers were hostile to the arrival of the latest technology within industries and factories because they would lose their jobs and livelihood.
Machines replaced human labour threatening their livelihood. When new technology was introduced, many workers showed anger at it as they feared unemployment. For example, when the spinning machine was introduced within the woollen industry, the ladies' workers started attacking the new machines. However, after 1840, construction work began on an outsized scale within the cities. Thus roads were widened, railway lines were laid down, railway stations were constructed, tunnels were dug, and drainage and sewers were laid. All this created new employment opportunities.
