Detailed Solution

Yes, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations in 2025 as scheduled. There are no plans to remove the board exams. The exams are a critical component of the assessment structure for students affiliated with the CBSE. The board has already announced that the examinations for the 2024-2025 academic session will commence in February 2025.

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's focus on reducing curriculum load and emphasizing core concepts, the CBSE has continued with a rationalized syllabus for the 2024-2025 session. This means that several chapters and topics have been removed from the NCERT textbooks and, consequently, from the examination syllabus.

For CBSE Class 12 Chemistry, the following chapters have been completely removed and will not be assessed in the 2025 board exams:

  • The Solid State
  • Surface Chemistry
  • General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements (Metallurgy)
  • The p-Block Elements (completely, though some concepts are integrated elsewhere)
  • Polymers
  • Chemistry in Everyday Life

Similarly, other subjects have also seen deletions. For instance, in Biology, chapters like "Reproduction in Organisms" and "Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production" have been removed. In Physics, topics like the cyclotron, potentiometer, and Davisson-Germer experiment have been excluded. Students must refer to the latest syllabus published by CBSE on its official academic website to get a precise and detailed list of all topics and chapters that will be part of the 2025 board examinations. Studying from the latest edition of the NCERT textbooks is the most reliable way to align with the current curriculum.
