Detailed Solution

It is given that a vehicle could travel a distance in 40 minutes with an average speed of 60 km/h.
We know that two variables are said to be inversely proportional if and only if they are directly proportional to one another's reciprocal. If x and y   are two variables in inverse variations, then
xy=k,   where k is a proportionality constant.
Let the vehicle's average speed in order to complete a distance in 25 min is x.   From the given data, we can draw a table as,

Average speed of vehicle (in km/h)

60

x

Time taken by vehicle (in minutes)

40

25

Since on increasing the average speed, there will be a decrease in the time taken, therefore this is a case of inverse proportion.
Thus,
60×40=x×25 x= 60×40 25 x=96
Therefore, the vehicle's speed needs to be 96 km/h in order to complete the same distance in 25 minutes.
Hence, option (3) is correct.
