The State political parties are often referred to as the Regional parties of the country. These parties enjoy influence only in their respective states or in other states they have established their recognition in. It is the election commission that provides recognition to parties. Apart from the eight National Parties of India, the Election Commission classifies all the other political parties as the State Parties. These parties need not be regional in their ideology or outlook. Some of these parties are all Indian parties, in virtue of their name and influence, that happen to have succeeded only in some states. Parties that come under this category include the Biju Janata Dal, Sikkim Democratic Front, Mizo National Front and Telangana Rashtra Samithi. Other than these, there are several regional or state parties which work at the national level too like the Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Janata Dal party.
