Detailed Solution

Women were paid less than men during the early twentieth century in Russia. Protective regulations prohibited women from working dangerous or physically demanding jobs and encouraged them to enter positions that matched their biological and psychological characteristics. Thus, women ended up in areas like teaching, nursing, trading, food, and light industry, while men were mainly concentrated in heavy industry, excavation, engineering and architecture. In Soviet Russia, the gender wage difference was primarily caused by this division. This was because earnings within sectors were set by the view of a given sector's productivity, laboriousness, and societal utility under the central wage system, where economic forces did not intervene.
