Family law or personal law deals with family relationships and the matters relating to marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption etc. Religion in India is pervasive and can be found in every part of our lives. It also plays an important role in the regulation of family law. India has different laws for different religions. These personal laws are biased and discriminate against women, like women were not allowed to have a part in inheritance or exploitative practices like triple tala, which are protected by these laws. Therefore women's movements demand that such laws must be changed. Many demands were made for implementing a uniform civil code so that a single law could govern the personal laws for all and thus abolish discriminatory and exploitative practices against women.
