World Ozone Day is celebrated on 16th September every year. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1994 to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The Montreal Protocol is an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing
out the production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances, such as chlorofl uorocarbons (CFCs) and halons. It was signed on 16th September, 1987.
