Detailed Solution

World War II began with the German invasion of Poland.
German forces burst through Polish border barriers and rushed into Warsaw, Poland's capital. Within a month after the German onslaught, Warsaw surrendered. Most of eastern Poland was rapidly captured by Soviet forces, while western Poland remained under German occupation until 1945. On September 3, 1939, Britain and France declared war on Germany, based on their assurance of Poland's border. Following the defeat of Polish forces in the seized lands, German authorities began imposing their racial laws. They forced Jews to wear white armbands with a blue Star of David to identify themselves, and then conscripted them for forced labor. They drove hundreds of thousands of Poles out of their homes and replaced them with more than 500,000 ethnic Germans.
