Write a brief account on classification of xerophytes ?

Xerophytes are classified into following three categories:

• Ephemerals : These xerophytes are annual, and complete their life cycle in very short period. E.g., Tribulus
• Succulents : Xerophytes absorb large amount of water during rainy season and store in the form of mucilage.
  a) Root succulents – Asparagus.
  b) Stem succulents – Opuntia
  c) Leaf succulents – Aloe.
• Non-succulents : Xerophytes are perennial and with stand prolong period of drought.
  E.g., Nerium, Casuarina.
