AIDS stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome and is caused by HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus. This virus weakens the system by destroying a kind of white blood cells in our body called T-cells or CD4 cells, which play a key role within the system of the body. When this happens, HIV infection can cause AIDS. it's a posh illness with a range of symptoms. World AIDS Day was first observed in 1988. Since then, World AIDS day is designated on 1st December. World AIDS Day is one in every of the eight official global public health campaigns marked by the WHO. today is devoted to boost awareness, educate, and improve the understanding of the disease globally. The symptoms of the disease can vary depending upon the stage of infection. within the first few weeks, symptoms are often like influenza-like illness, but because it progresses severe illnesses like tuberculosis, meningitis, severe bacterial infections, and cancer can develop if not treated. The infection is transmitted through sexual contact with an infected person, sharing needles or syringes, receiving blood transfusions, or from mother to child. HIV isn't transmitted by hugging, shaking hands, sharing toilets, dishes, or closed-mouth/ “social” kissing. It doesn't spread through mosquitoes or other blood-sucking insects. Thus, it's important to practice safe sexual behaviors and use condoms, to not share needles, syringes, swabs, etc. All pregnant women must be tested for HIV as a component of routine screening. Awareness is that the best prevention of AIDS. there's no cure for HIV. However, effective antiretroviral drugs can control the virus and improve the longevity of life. With treatment, HIV positive people can also enjoy a healthy, long, and productive life.
