Write a note on economic importance of algae and bryophytes.

Economic importance of algae :
* Species of Porphyra  and Laminaria,Sargassum are used as food.
* Agar is obtained from Gelidium.
* Iodine is extracted from Laminaria.
* Chlorella and Spirullina are useful as SCP.

* Hydrocolloids - algin (brown algae), carrageen(red algae)
Economic importance of Bryophytes :
* Sphagnum provide peat which is useful as packing material for transshipment of living material.
* Mosses play a significant role in plant succession.

* They reduce the impact of falling rain and prevent soil erosion.
