Detailed Solution

The Indian Constitution was framed by a Constituent Assembly elected in 1946, which first met on 9 December 1946. Jawaharlal Nehru’s Objective Resolution set its guiding ideals and later informed the Preamble.

A Drafting Committee chaired by B. R. Ambedkar was appointed on 29 August 1947 and produced a draft in February 1948, revised through extensive clause-by-clause debates across 11 sessions over 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days, with inputs from committees on Fundamental Rights, Union–State relations, minorities, and more.

The Constitution was adopted on 26 November 1949, signed on 24 January 1950, and came into force on 26 January 1950, establishing a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic with parliamentary federalism, Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles, and an independent judiciary; the final document was hand-written by Prem Behari Narain Raizada and illustrated under Nandalal Bose.
