Convex lenses are used to converge light and concave lenses are used to diverge light; both help in optical devices and vision correction.

Type of lens	Uses
Convex Lens	Used in magnifying glasses and microscopes to enlarge objects. Forms real images in cameras and projectors. Used in eye glasses for hypermetropia (farsightedness). Focuses light in solar cookers and optical instruments.
Concave Lens	Used in spectacles to correct myopia (nearsightedness). Used in peep holes of doors to give a wide view. Helps diverge light before it reaches a convex lens in compound microscopes. Used in laser beam expanders and optical instruments for control of light spread.
