Opioids are the drugs obtained from Papaver somniferum (poppy plant). Opioids act as depressants and slows down the body functions. Some of them are morphine, heroin, etc.

• Morphine: It is extracted from the dried latex of the capsule of poppy plant. It is a white crystalline powder.
• Heroin: It is a white crystalline powder obtained by the acetylation of morphine. It is commonly called smack.
