The atoms or ions that have only paired electrons and has no unpaired electrons are diamagnetic and they do not possess net magnetic moment.
When an electron rotates on its axis and generates a magnetic field, then the magnetic moment caused by electrons is known as the spin only magnetic moment.
The formula to determine the magnetic moment, μ   is-
μ= n(n+2) BM  
Or
μ= 4s(s+1) BM  
In the above equation,  n gives the number of unpaired electrons and s is the spin quantum number.
