Given equations are

3 x − 7 y = 1

and

6 x − 14 y − 3 = 0

.
We know that a pair of linear equations

a 1 x + b 1 y + c 1 = 0

and

a 2 x + b 2 y + c 2 = 0

have no solution, if and only if

a 1 a 2 = b 1 b 2 ≠ c 1 c 2

.
Rewrite the given equations in the standard form

a 1 x + b 1 y + c 1 = 0

and

a 2 x + b 2 y + c 2 = 0

3 x − 7 y − 1 = 0

……………….(1)

6 x − 14 y − 3 = 0

……………….(2)
Compare equation (1) and (2) with standard linear equations, we get,

a 1 = 3; b 1 = − 7; c 1 = − 1

a 2 = 6; b 2 = − 14; c 2 = − 3

Now find

a 1 a 2, b 1 b 2 and c 1 c 2

a 1 a 2 = 36

a 1 a 2 = 12

b 1 b 2 = − 7 − 14

b 1 b 2 = 12

……………….(4)

c 1 c 2 = − 1 − 3

By comparing equation (3), (4) and (5) We get,

As a result, there is no solution to the pair of linear equations.
