Detailed Solution

Wular Lake is a permanent lake.
It is in Jammu and Kashmir, one of South Asia's largest freshwater lakes, fed by the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus. It is a permanent lake of glacial origin, formed when glaciers erode the land to form a basin, having water throughout the year. The lake has varying dimensions according to the season. It is declared a Ramsar site and is under threat due to pollution from nearby agricultural lands. The plantation activities in the lake's catchment area have greatly reduced its size. Trees are planned to be cut down to restore the lake's vitality. The lake sustains a rich population of birds like the Indian roller, Eurasian sparrowhawk, golden oriole, Himalayan golden eagle, and Himalayan woodpecker.
