Young Italy was founded by Giuseppe Mazzini. He was deported in 1831 at the young age of 24 for launching a revolution in Liguria. He established two further underground organisations, "Young Europe" in Berne and "Young Italy" in Marseilles, to disseminate revolutionary views further. These organisations comprised like-minded young men from Poland, France, Italy, and the German nations. According to Mazzini, God created countries as the basic social structures of humanity. Therefore, Italy cannot continue to be divided into different kingdoms. A single, undivided republic is required. Secret societies were founded due to his example in Germany, France, Switzerland, and Poland.
