Detailed Solution

In Zimbabwe's first really democratic election, the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) came out on top. Robert Mugabe, who has led ZANU since 1977, was just named the country's prime minister. Mugabe's ZANU-PF party won 73 of the 100 seats in the new parliament, while Joshua Nkomo's Patriotic Front-ZAPU (PF-ZAPU) party came in second with 57 seats. Mugabe put together the Government of National Unity, which included representatives from all of the main political parties involved in the war's fifteen years.
