Movement of water into the plant body, within the plant and from plant to atmosphere is always passive. It takes place either by diffusion or mass flow or osmosis. The movement of water is from a region of higher water potential to a region of lower water potential. i.e. down the gradient of water potential. Movement of solutes is both active and passive.
