Anatomy of Dicotyledonous and Monocotyledonous Plants
Question

Assertion: Leaves of dicots are mostly bifacial leaves.

Reason: Dorsal side and ventral sides of leaves may have stomata.

Easy
Solution

Leaves of dicots are mostly dorsiventral leaves. These leaves have palisade with compactly arranged cells having more chloroplasts towards the ventral side and spongy tissue with loosely arranged cells with few chloroplasts on the dorsal side. Ventral side is directly exposed to light and dorsal side to shade because the leaves are aligned perpendicular to the incidence of light of plant axis. Stomata are present either only on the lower epidermis or both upper and lower epidermis. More stomata are present in the lower epidermis than upper epidermis.
