These leaves have palisade with compactly arranged cells having more chloroplasts towards the ventral side and spongy tissue with loosely arranged cells with few chloroplasts on the dorsal side. Ventral side is directly exposed to light and dorsal side to shade because the leaves are aligned perpendicular to the incidence of light of plant axis.
