Bt. toxin is formed in inactive form in the bacterium. When the toxin is ingested by the insect, in the gut of insect it becomes active in alkaline pH of its gut. The active toxin binds to the epithelium of midgut and form pores. This causes swelling and lysis of cells and eventually the insect dies.
