Chaplin met a young actress named Joan Barry, with whom he had an affair. If the child was actually fathered by Chaplin what would be the blood group of the girl?

Solution

Joan Barry had blood type A, which can be produced by either genotype $I^{A} I^{A}$ or $I^{A} i$ . With blood type O in Chaplin, he produced only by genotype ii. Therefore the child could have either blood group A or blood group O. Any other type of blood group would prove that the child was not fathered by Chaplin.
