All secondary meristems arise from permanent living cells such as parenchyma and collenchyma cells by a process known as dedifferentiation. Cork cambium is formed from cortex of dicot stems and pericycle of dicot roots. Vascular cambium of dicot root is formed from pericycle and conjunctive tissue. The interfascicular cambium of dicot stem is formed from medullary ray cells. Vascular cambium and Cork cambium are lateral meristems.
